DSU, following the existing ones, begins the production of new SMART optical handheld devices.

With more than 70,000 JDSU optical handhelds already in use, a new line of SMART products has been developed to help carriers take their networks to the next level. JDSU's SMART optical handhelds form a new, higher-level, intelligent line of measurement instruments for all optical signals and systems, including those used in broadband, FTTx, PON, and Gigabit Ethernet networks.

The SmartClass series instrument is designed for testing E1 streams and has many useful features:

  • Autoconfiguration
  • Group delay monitoring
  • External sync input
  • Testing against G.821, G.826 and M.2100 recommendations
  • Outputting the audio frequency channel to the speaker
  • ABCD/Sa bit control
  • Group delay testing
  • Histograms, event log
  • Waveform measurement
